Math and chemistry in Markdown on Android

Notes, homework, lab reports, and AI answers often include formulas written in LaTeX, like $E = mc^2$. A plain text viewer shows this as raw code. A reader that typesets math shows the actual formula.

How math is written in Markdown

You writeYou get
$a^2 + b^2 = c^2$a formula inside a sentence
$$\int_0^1 x\,dx = \tfrac{1}{2}$$a formula on its own line
$$\ce{CH4 + 2O2 -> CO2 + 2H2O}$$a chemical equation

Reading it on Android

Open the .md file in PilcrowMD. The app formats formulas right on your phone. It does not use the internet or a hidden web page. Formulas written with $…$ stay in the sentence. A $$…$$ formula on its own line becomes a formula on its own line; $$…$$ in the middle of a sentence stays in the sentence.

Prices are safe. If you write "$5 and $10", PilcrowMD leaves it as plain text. It does not mistake money for math.

Common questions

Does it work with math from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini? Yes, if the answer is saved as Markdown with $…$ or $$…$$ around the formulas. Some assistants use \(…\) and \[…\] instead. PilcrowMD doesn't read those yet – replace them with $…$ and $$…$$.

Can I edit formulas? Yes. Switch to the editor, change the LaTeX, and switch back to see the result.
